Wester Joseph was born in Miami, Florida to Haitian immigrants. Being raised in such a culturally-rich atmosphere became a pivotal key in the variety of sounds in his music. He was given his first guitar at the age of 15, and has had a love affair for playing ever since. Stereo Vudu is the inspiration of Wester Joseph. Influenced by such diverse musicians as Jimi Hendrix, Curtis Mayfield, Shuggie Otis, Neil Young, Nirvana, Fela Kuti, King Crimson, Zap Mama, Sade and Bo Diddley, he envisioned organic music that crossed boundaries and blurred genres. Melding rock, soul, blues, alternative and world, Joseph has perfectly synthesized his own new sound. His music has been described as “soulful rock magic” or, as Joseph himself calls it, “vudu rawk.”
Wester Joseph’s Stereo Vudu is currently working on a new album titled Vudu 2. The band says “It contains the classic Vudu sounds but also presents some new and interesting grooves that will make you want to get up and dance and get your vudu groove on.” The new album is scheduled for release in late summer and they are planning a fall and winter tour to support it. Songs from the new Vudu 2 album will be showcased at their “Free Fridays” concert.
Band members include Wester Joseph (lead vocals, lead and rhythm guitar), Lacy Gifford (lead and back-up vocals), Danny Rochelle (lead and back-up vocals, keyboards), Roberto Glaser (percussion), Cory Klein (bass guitar) and Josh Hintermister (drums).
